Blue Zones, Conservation & Culture
Okinawa is known for its strong local identity, rich food culture, and reputation for longevity. This program uses the island’s coastal ecosystems, cultural traditions, and everyday food practices to give students a more active understanding of how environment, community, and lifestyle shape wellbeing. Across the program, students take part in coral restoration service work, mangrove field research, a shisa painting workshop, and an Okinawan cooking class, before concluding with marine discovery in Northern Okinawa. The itinerary is designed to balance hands-on learning with shared cultural experiences, giving students clear, memorable ways to engage with Okinawa beyond a standard sightseeing program.
