Service Learning in Vietnam: Mai Chau Village Revitalization

Official statistics from the Mai Chau District Authority show that over 30% of households in the village are considered poor, with an income of less than $20 per person per month—almost five times lower than the national average.

Our service-learning school trips to Vietnam respond directly to these challenges. Developed in collaboration with local villagers and community leaders, the project prioritizes participation, sustainability, and shared decision-making to ensure each initiative meets real community needs.

Students will take part in a hands-on construction project that improves village infrastructure while fostering empathy, resilience, and global citizenship. By working side by side with community members, students gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of life in underserved rural areas—making a real difference while learning through action.

The Diploma in International Volunteering

Our Mai Chau Village Revitalization program is eligible for the Diploma in International Volunteering, offered in partnership with the Centre for Global Citizenship Studies.

Through five structured modules—including pre-departure learning, on-site fieldwork, and post-project reflection—students earn an internationally recognized qualification that enhances both their personal growth and academic profile.

This diploma not only makes service learning more meaningful and impactful, but it also gives students the opportunity to earn up to 16 UCAS Points, 20 ECTS credits, or 10 US college credits.
