Ben Tre – The Coconut Land
Ben Tre lies in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, where rivers, fertile farmland, and coconut groves shape daily life. This program gives students a place-based introduction to the food systems, livelihoods, and cultural traditions of southern Vietnam.
Through farm-based learning, community workshops, and cultural exchange, students explore the people and practices behind familiar products. The journey invites reflection on sustainable agriculture, food security, and the role of community in preserving local knowledge.
Day 1
Morning: Travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre Province (3.5 - 4 hours).
Afternoon: Visit the Truong Vinh Ky (Pétrus Ký) Memorial Hall and tomb, which honours the nineteenth-century Vietnamese scholar and educator. Students then visit Dong Khoi Guerrilla Village, a historic site connected to the 1960 Dong Khoi movement and its role in Vietnam’s modern history.
Evening: Welcome dinner, program briefing reflection.

Day 2
Morning: Start your morning with a local rice farm visit, learning about local flooded rice farming techniques.
Afternoon: Dive into hands-on rice farming activities, learning about cultivation techniques, water management, and the daily realities of agricultural life from local farmers.
Evening: Cultural exchange with local youth (games, storytelling, or traditional music activities).
Day 3
Morning: After breakfast, participate in a coconut candy workshop, learning about the essence of coconut in Ben Tre.
Afternoon: Join a skills workshop with locals (e.g., basket weaving, planting, or sustainability activities)
Evening: Reflection session and sharing with the community before departure
Day 4
Morning: Final reflections, pack up, check out.
Afternoon: Travel back to Ho Chi Minh City.
