October Recap: Real Programs, Real Experiences: What's New This Season

October Recap: Real Programs, Real Experiences: What's New This Season

An experiential learning journey opens up unique opportunities for students. They get to work alongside new people, step outside their comfort zone, and discover what actually matters to them.

This edition looks at those opportunities in action. We visit a service-learning trip in Chiang Mai, introduce three new programs across Japan, explore what a UK campus visit can offer before students apply, and meet the team who makes each program possible.

A Community Center Rebuilt by Our Students in Chiang Mai

Our "Lan Na: Connect & Contribute" program pairs cultural immersion with hands-on service, showing students how their effort would keep serving the community long after they leave.

Your schoolโ€™s CAS coordinator sets the details, such as how many reflections you need and how evidence is logged.

The journey started in Chiang Mai, where students explored temples and markets before trekking through forest and farmland into a village. From there, for two days, students worked alongside residents at the community center, painting walls, repairing a damaged rooftop, and laying new flooring.

Each evening, once the work was done, the group gathered for a cultural exchange night to reflect on what they had built that day and why it mattered to the people who would use that space every day going forward.

Bai Sri Su Kwan ceremony

The trip closed with a Bai Sri Su Kwan ceremony, where residents thanked the group before students returned to the city. The group left with a clearer sense of what service actually requires: teamwork, patience, and consistency.

Japan: Three New Programs, Three Different Lessons

Okinawa, Setouchi, and Tohoku each open a different learning door into Japan, spanning marine conservation, traditional craft, and disaster recovery. Two of the three, Okinawa and Tohoku, also carry academic credit through our Diploma Program.

Japan Three New Programs, Three Different Lessons

In Okinawa, our "Blue Zones, Conservation & Culture" program has students restore coral reefs and study a mangrove ecosystem alongside local teams. That work leads to conversations with island residents, who explain why Okinawa is one of the world's five Blue Zones. This program is credit-bearing, worth up to 16 UCAS points, 21 ECTS credits, or 9 US college credits.

Resilience & Recovery in Tohoku

With the โ€œResilience & Recovery in Tohokuโ€ program, the subject turns to recovery. Students help maintain sections of the Michinoku Coastal Trail with local NPOs, then hear directly from survivors who rebuilt the Sanriku coast after the 2011 tsunami. This program carries the same credit value as Okinawa.

Setouchi Art & Culture

The focus shifts to craft in the โ€œSetouchi Art & Cultureโ€ program, where students dye indigo textiles, hand-make udon in a pilgrimage town along the old Shikoku route, and visit Naoshima's art installations.

UK Campus Tours: A Real Taste of University Life

What can a campus visit answer that a prospectus cannot?

UK Campus Tours A Real Taste of University Life

Many teens dream of studying in the UK, but few can picture what student life there would actually be like. A campus visit changes that, giving them a direct look before they start an application.

With our UK Campus Tour, students take part in workshops led by faculty and sit in on panels where current undergraduates answer unfiltered questions about workload, accommodation, and cost. They also hear directly from admissions staff and attend sample lectures and lab sessions in the subjects they are considering.

It is a valuable step before students start applying. They get direct answers to their questions and come away with a clearer sense of which university is actually right for them.
